Branch Notes - May 2018
At our May meeting we saw two presentations. In the first,
we heard about the regulations surrounding emissions from ships as Kathleen
Goddard spoke about this important and topical issue. She described the various
regulations, both existing and incoming, what authorities and companies were
doing to meet them, and Emission Control Areas. Kathleen’s talk provided a
highly interesting insight into a subject that is of great importance to the
shipping industry at present. She was followed by David Walker, who showed
photographs taken on two recent cruises with Cruise and Maritime Voyages – a
Christmas Markets cruise on Magellan to Amsterdam, Hamburg and Antwerp, and an Amsterdam
and Antwerp weekend on their newest vessel Columbus. Thanks are due to both
speakers for a very interesting evening.
Ronez
The bank holiday continues - Ronez arrived on this morning's tide from Port Talbot with a cargo of blast furnace slag, to be loaded into the warehouse behind her. She has been bringing slag from Port Talbot since the end of 2017 and has made several trips. Her arrival brings a tally of three ships in port ahead of the week starting on Tuesday morning.
Roseburg and Uttum
An excellent start to the bank holiday weekend - Roseburg and Uttum arriving at Teignmouth, from Newport and Belfast respectively. At the same time, vehicle carrier Carnation Ace landed a pilot at Brixham, and container ship MOL Emissary boarded one. Maersk Kentucky will land a pilot early this afternoon.
May 2018 Meeting
At our May meeting, Kathy Goddard will present "Reducing Air Pollution from Ships", followed by David Walker, who will show some photographs taken on recent trips with Cruise and Maritime Voyages. 19:30, 10th May, Alice Cross Centre, Teignmouth. Non members are most welcome.
Alecto
Alecto arriving at Teignmouth on this morning's tide. Her last port was Rotterdam. She was completed by Damen in the Netherlands during 2007. While she was berthing, Brixham pilots serviced two vessels - Stena Impero, a tanker on her way to Cristobal in Panama, and Maersk Seletar, a container ship on her way to Bremerhaven from the US.
